Fire Extinguisher Maintenance
Per Ontario Fire Code Section 6.2, portable extinguishers must meet strict maintenance intervals:
- Monthly: Visual inspection by building owner/staff
- Annually: Certified technician inspection & tag
- 6-Year: Internal inspection and refill
- 12-Year: Hydrostatic testing of the cylinder
Emergency Lighting Systems
Per Section 2.7.3, exit and emergency lighting must be tested to ensure visibility during power failure:
- Monthly: Functional test of primary power failure response
- Annually: Full duration test under simulated power failure
- Duration: Must provide illumination for at least 30 minutes
- Coverage: Required for stairways and public corridors
Ontario Fire Code 5.3.9. (1): Emergency lighting shall be provided in exit stairways, public corridors and other principal access to exits where the occupant load in a building exceeds 24 persons or there are more than 10 dwelling units.
